Plauer See: open water on the western edge
The Plauer See is one of the great Oberseen of the Mecklenburg Lake District – wide, open water on the western edge of the region. If you cruise here from the Rheinsberg waters via the Müritz, you'll already have a fine stretch in your wake.
On its north-western shore lies the water town of Plau am See with a historic old town, lift bridge and castle tower – a rewarding turning point for the long round trip.
The long round through the Oberseen
Plauer See, Fleesensee and Kölpinsee together form the Oberseen west of the Müritz. They are linked by the navigable canal and the swing bridge at Malchow – a classic stage for everyone who wants to cover more ground.
The wide expanses of the Plauer See are sportier in wind than the small lakes of the Rheinsberg area – in return you get a real sense of openness.
Turning point Plau am See
The little water town at the north-western end invites you to moor: old-town lanes, cafés and the historic lift bridge over the Elde. From here the waterway network continues via the Müritz-Elde waterway towards the Elbe.
